Michigan EIBC Tours Rockford Construction HQ

GRAND RAPIDS – Members of the Michigan Energy Innovation Business Council (Michigan EIBC) went on a tour of Rockford Construction’s headquarters on Thursday, September 8, a September installation of the Michigan Energy Forum. Michigan EIBC is a business trade association representing companies in Michigan’s growing advanced energy sector.

“We’re excited to host our fellow Michigan EIBC members on today’s tour,” said Scott Ferguson, Vice President of Sustainability at Rockford Construction. “We believe that high-performing buildings are good for the property owner and the local economy. Whether giving businesses a tour of our facility, to our membership in the Grand Rapids 2030 District, we will continue to push high-performing building practices.”

Rockford’s headquarters in Grand Rapids’ west side was built with energy efficiency in mind, from green roofs to help thermal insulation, to efficient LED lighting to optimizing the use of natural light. Last year, they committed to join the Grand Rapids 2030 District, a high-performing downtown business district working to cut area-wide energy use, water use and transportation emissions in half by the year 2030.

Several of Rockford’s energy initiatives used the utility rebates created through the state’s successful energy optimization program. Estimates show that the program has saved Michigan ratepayers $4.2 billion in prevented energy costs.

“Rockford’s work highlights the benefits to property owners, businesses and ratepayers of a comprehensive energy approach for buildings,” said Michigan EIBC PresidentLiesl Eichler Clark. “Our state’s energy optimization program enables deep energy efficiency efforts like this; we need Lansing to send the right policy signals to can keep them happening.”
