Solar in Michigan: The Economic Impact of Distributed Generation on Non-Solar Customers

A June 2017 IEI whitepaper analyzes close to 50 studies of the value of solar and finds that the benefits of distributed solar generation systems exceed the retail cost of electricity and the value of solar in the majority of cases studied is greater than the compensation solar customers received under ‘net metering’ programs. The whitepaper is designed to inform the study required of the Michigan Public Service Commission under PA 341 and 342 of 2016.
