LANSING – The Michigan Energy Innovation Business Council today issued the following statement in reaction to a recent rate increase for DTE Energy customers that was approved by the Michigan Public Service Commission.

“Michigan EIBC was glad to see that the Commission approved DTE’s proposed electric vehicle charging program and rejected DTE’s proposed access charge for distributed solar. However, the Commission did not take the opportunity to fully value the benefits that rooftop solar provides to the grid. Without accurate valuation of those benefits, residential and commercial customers will be discouraged from installing solar panels, hurting those customers as well as our member companies and their employees. We will continue to work with regulators and lawmakers to ensure customers are reimbursed for the full value and benefits that these distributed generation systems provide to customers, the grid, and utilities.”
