EIBC Featured at Events Across Michigan; AMM April 23

Last week, Michigan EIBC staff spoke at events in Grand Rapids and East Lansing. On Thursday, Michigan EIBC Vice President of Policy, Laura Sherman moderated a panel on siting of renewable energy and spoke on a panel on electric vehicles at the Michigan Climate Action Summit in Grand Rapids. The summit brought together a broad array of stakeholders to “set a bold new agenda for Michigan to move forward on climate.” The Summit featured speakers including Grand Rapids Mayor Rosalynn Bliss and the Director of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and former Michigan EIBC President, Liesl Eichler Clark.

On Friday, Cory Connolly, Michigan EIBC Vice President of Development and Community Projects, spoke on a panel focused on electric vehicles at the 15th Annual Michigan Forum on Economic Regulatory Policy. The Forum is a one-day conference designed specifically by the Institute of Public Utilities for the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC), the Michigan State Legislature, the Offices of the Governor and Attorney General, consumer and environmental advocates, utility industry representatives, and others interested in Michigan regulatory policy. Cory provided insights on the status of the electric vehicle industry in Michigan and the opportunities that it presents for the state and for Michigan EIBC members. The panel was moderated by Commissioner Norm Saari and featured additional panelists from DTE Energy, Consumers Energy, and the Electric Power Research Institute.

Michigan EIBC Networking Event at Michigan CAT

On Monday, Michigan EIBC held a networking event at Michigan CAT with approximately 60 attendees from across the advanced energy industry. The event featured a presentation by Graeme Miller, Energy Policy Analyst with the Energy Resources Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). At the ERC, Mr. Miller works as on energy policy issues for the US DOE Midwest Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Technical Assistance Partnership. His presentation focused on the state of the CHP market, providing valuable insight for industry experts as well as for attendees new to the topic.
Following the presentation, attendees toured Michigan CAT’s state-of-the-art full service facility for the power systems, heavy equipment, and truck segments of their business. Attendees were able to see Michigan CAT’s parts department and service shops, including the 8,000 square foot gas engine overhaul facility. The tour provided attendees a glimpse into the many different markets Michigan CAT serves.
