LANSING – The Michigan Energy Innovation Business Council (Michigan EIBC) today applauded the Michigan Public Service Commission’s (MPSC) decision to authorize Consumers Energy’s voluntary green pricing programs, which set a framework for large energy users to purchase clean, renewable energy to meet their energy needs. In today’s decision, the MPSC also put DTE’s proposed program on hold until the utility provides more information about costs.

“A growing number of Michigan’s largest energy users are demanding clean, renewable energy because it is affordable and helps them meet their long-term energy needs,” said Liesl Clark, President of Michigan EIBC. “We applaud the Commission for approving Consumers Energy’s programs, which will boost access to clean energy to meet the growing demand among businesses. We look forward to working with DTE Electric to make sure their program works for Michigan’s advanced energy industry and corporate energy users.”

As an intervening party in both cases, Michigan EIBC urged the MPSC to establish strong green power pricing programs to help meet the growing demand for renewable energy in Michigan. Corporations, cities and universities across Michigan have made commitments to purchase more renewable energy to decrease energy bills, secure long-term, low-cost electricity and respond to their customers and employees’ demands. Today’s decision marks a significant step toward increasing access to renewable energy for large energy users.
